Also Endorses Initiatives for Abortion Rights and Affordable Housing
LOS ANGELES — The American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California endorses Measure A, which if passed would amend the L.A. County Charter to keep the sheriff accountable by authorizing the removal of a sheriff if they commit serious violations of the public trust.
The ACLU SoCal Ballot Guide also includes endorsements for Proposition 1, which would affirm statewide rights to abortion and contraception, and Measures H and ULA on housing protections in Pasadena and affordable housing in L.A. City respectively.
Here’s a summary of the ACLU SoCal’s recommendations in numeral and alphabetical order:
- YES on Proposition 1 that would amend the state constitution to affirm as strongly as possible Californians’ rights to access abortion and contraception.
- YES on Measure A (L.A. County) that would amend the L.A. County Charter to keep the sheriff accountable by authorizing the removal of a sheriff if they commit serious violations such as breaking the law, lying in official statements, obstructing investigations into deputy misconduct or failing to stop deputy gangs from brutalizing our communities.
- YES on Measure H (Pasadena) that would establish rent control in the City of Pasadena, enact “just cause” eviction protections, create an independent rental housing board and implement tenant protections.
- YES on Measure ULA (L.A. City) that would establish a mansion tax for millionaires and billionaires in the City of L.A. that would reduce houselessness by buying, building and preserving affordable housing, sending cash support to low-income seniors and disabled people on the brink of losing their homes and investing in tenant protections.
