LOS ANGELES - "We hope that the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors' decision to appoint John Scott as temporary sheriff of Los Angeles County will serve to move this troubled department a step closer to real reform," said Hector Villagra, executive director of the ACLU of Southern California.
"In selecting Scott, the supervisors recognized that the only way to restore the public's trust in the sheriff's department is to follow state law with respect to who can be sheriff. We look forward to working with him in the coming months to ensure that the vital recommendations made by the Citizens’ Commission on Jail Violence, along with those made by the ACLU, continue to be implemented.”
