SEATTLE — The lawyers for Sheikh Yassir Fazaga, Ali Malik, Yasser AbdelRahim — the three named plaintiffs in Fazaga v. FBI– will present oral arguments June 8 in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
In the case, most recently ruled on by the Supreme Court, the plaintiffs are challenging the FBI’s secret spying on them (and their communities) based on their religion — in violation of the Constitution and federal law. At stake on Thursday is whether the plaintiffs’ religious discrimination claims can move forward, inching them closer to their day in court.
Peter Bibring, formerly senior counsel at the ACLU Foundation of Southern California, will present oral arguments. The court hearing will take place at 1:00 p.m. PT at the Ninth Circuit Court in Seattle, WA and will be livestreamed here: https://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/media/live-oral-arguments/
The plaintiffs are represented by attorneys from the ACLU SoCal, the Center for Immigration Law and Policy at UCLA School of Law, and the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Greater Los Angeles.
