SAN FRANCISCO — The American Civil Liberties Union and its partners argued today in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on behalf of three Muslim Americans who are challenging their unconstitutional religious questioning by U.S. border officers.
In response to Governor Gavin Newsom's executive order for California state officials to begin displacing unhoused people, the ACLU affiliates in California jointly issued the following statement:
LOS ANGELES – The U.S. Supreme Court ruled today that cities can punish unhoused people for sleeping in public, even if they have nowhere else to go. This decision goes against longstanding Supreme Court precedent that it is cruel and unusual to criminalize a person’s status.
