Families and Community Groups to Deliver Lawsuit to His Office

LOS ANGELES — On Wednesday, a coalition of community activists, faith leaders, and families who lost loved ones to sheriff deputy shootings will gather at the Hall of Justice for a press conference and rally.

Participants will deliver to L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva's office a lawsuit, filed yesterday by the ACLU Foundation of Southern California, for unlawfully refusing to produce records on use-of-force incidents and deputy misconduct.

The rally will also focus on numerous other ways in which Villanueva has abused his power since taking office in December, including:

  • Rehiring deputies fired for cause
  • Investigating deputy misconduct at half the rate of the previous three sheriffs
  • Continuing to tear families apart by cooperating with private contractors working with ICE

WHO: Speakers include:
Demetra Johnson, mother of A.J. Weber
Leah Gonzalez, mother of Paul Rea
Stephanie Luna, aunt of Anthony Vargas

Andres Kwon, ACLU SoCal
Melina Abdullah, Black Lives Matter-L.A.
Pastor Carlos Rincon, LA Voice

WHEN: October 30, 3:30 p.m.
