The CA Values Act, also known as "SB 54," went into effect in January 2018. This new law protects the safety and well-being of all Californians by ensuring that state and local resources are not used to fuel mass deportations, separate families, and ultimately hurt California's economy. Further, it ensures that police, schools, health facilities, and courts remain accessible to Californians from all walks of life.
ensure the CA Values Act is upheld in your county.
While we work to make sure that Sheriffs' policies across the state comply with the letter and spirit of law, we need your help to build public pressure locally.
Below is a toolkit on how activists can target their Boards of Supervisors as a strategy for Values Act implementation. By passing pro-Values Act resolutions, you can send a strong message to law enforcement agencies that disentanglement is a reflection of community values. By passing a pro-Values Act ordinance, counties can increase restrictions on entanglement with federal immigration enforcement. The toolkit also explains the process to monitor and fight back against anti-Values Act local measures.
Cities and counties can, and have, gone beyond what the Values Act calls for. Now is the time to engage your Board of Supervisors and let them know that your city and county must stand with immigrants.
